GUAPO participates in the Smart City Forum organised at Paris City Hall

On November 27, 2018, GUAPO participates in the Smart City Forum, which is held over two days at the Paris City Hall. This Forum, organized by La Tribune, brings together policy-makers, entrepreneurs, engineers, intellectuals and representatives of civil society. Its objective is to reflect on new economic models, new practices and changes in relations between the various public and private actors at the local scale, as well as the challenges of energy transition, resilience and data management that arise at the urban level.

On this occasion, Elsa Martayan, Director of GUAPO, presented the association's missions and methods of action, in particular in terms of collecting and processing reliable and comparable data on air quality in global cities. She also pointed out the challenges related to the social acceptability of air quality policies and the importance of information and awareness-raising campaigns.

GUAPO Secretariat meets with a delegation from Vietnam on a study tour

On October 19th, 2018, the GUAPO Secretariat participated in a meeting organized at UN Environment headquarters with a Vietnamese delegation of representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment. 

The delegation is visiting Europe as part of a study tour organised by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) to learn about local approaches to air quality management, as well as the different challenges and opportunities specific to the region. 


Elsa Martayan, director of GUAPO, outlined the specificity of the project, based on a city-to-city exchange and cooperation platform with a strong focus on the health impacts of air pollution and the policies implemented to address these impacts. 


The Climate Secretariat and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), a GUAPO partner, presented their actions on short-lived climate pollutants, as well as the global awareness campaign BreatheLife, a joint initiative of WHO, UNEP and CCAC.

GUAPO General Assembly held on the sidelines of the first WHO Global conference on air pollution and health

On October 30th, 2018, GUAPO will hold its second General Assembly, on the sidelines of the first WHO Global conference on air pollution and health in Geneva. 
The General Assembly, in which all GUAPO members participate, will be an opportunity to review the progress made since the launch of GUAPO a year ago, to discuss the main strategic orientations and the upcoming work programme.


Participants to the Conference will include Ministers of Health and Environment, urban mayors, representatives of intergovernmental agencies, health professionals, academia and civil society. 
The expected outcome of the Conference is to come to an agreement on a “Call for Urgent Action” with targets for reducing the 7 million deaths a year due to air pollution by 2030.
